Everything You Need to Know About Marijuana in the US Virgin Islands

The question that you are probably asking right now is whether cannabis is legal in the Virgin Islands? Among the places where CBD is a legal product is in St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix. The rules and regulations on the use of medical marijuana have not been approved in the areas mentioned above. Due to this shortcoming, medical marijuana dispensaries have not yet opened. Even though legalization is still being processed for recreational marijuana, it is currently illegal in the territory. Once medical cannabis hits dispensaries, getting a medical card as a USVI resident will cost you an annual fee of $50. If a visitor wishes to use the medical cannabis in US VI, they’ll be required to get a temporary medical marijuana card. Visitors who wish to have a medical marijuana tourism card will have to pay more expensively: $50 for 5 days, $75 for 10 days, and $100 for 30 days. A resident of the United States, Virgin Islands who has a medical cannabis card will be allowed to grow 12 marijuana plants on their private land. It is important to note that medical marijuana cards from other jurisdictions outside the Virgin Islands will not be honored.

It is not likely that recreational marijuana will become legal in their USVI anytime soon. Even though cannabis was decriminalized in USVI, people who use it for creational purposes can be fined or imprisoned. It is advisable for you to know the penalties that apply for cannabis possession and distribution in USVI. If you’re caught with more than 10 oz of cannabis, you may be fined a large sum of money or even get sentenced to jail. Minors who are caught with any amount of cannabis will be mandated to undergo a drug awareness program. Given the distribution and sale of cannabis is 100% illegal, it attracts even severe punishment.

Cannabidiol is perfectly legal in the VI, and there are many dispensaries in the three islands where you can purchase local CBD products.
