A resident of the United States, Virgin Islands who has a medical cannabis card will be allowed to grow 12 marijuana plants on their private land. It is important to note that medical marijuana cards from other jurisdictions outside the Virgin Islands will not be honored.
It is not likely that recreational marijuana will become legal in their USVI anytime soon. Even though cannabis was decriminalized in USVI, people who use it for creational purposes can be fined or imprisoned. It is advisable for you to know the penalties that apply for cannabis possession and distribution in USVI. If you’re caught with more than 10 oz of cannabis, you may be fined a large sum of money or even get sentenced to jail. Minors who are caught with any amount of cannabis will be mandated to undergo a drug awareness program. Given the distribution and sale of cannabis is 100% illegal, it attracts even severe punishment.
